A Binghamton building that had been home to a dry cleaning establishment for more than seven decades is about to be renovated for a new business.
A town of Union man said he plans to an animal crematorium where Crescent Cleaners had operated in the First Ward.
Francisco Matesanz is awaiting approval of the project from the city planning commission.
Matesanz said members of the panel have asked for more information about the equipment and the emissions that would be released from the cremation process. He said steam and carbon dioxide would be vented from the facility but there would be no smoke and no odors.
Matesanz said cremation would be provided for owners of dogs, cats and other small pets. Viewing services and appropriate memorabilia would be available at the site as people mourn the loss of their beloved pet.
Matesanz said the business will be called Crescent Pet Crematorium, an acknowledgment of the dry cleaning operation that was located at the site until a devastating fire in May 2020.
