Islamabad: Qatar Charity (QC), in partnership with the United Nations Childrens Fund (UNICEF), announced the launch of a project to improve health and nutrition for the poor in Pakistan.
The project expects to benefit about one million people in Jhang district of Punjab, Quetta, and Naseerabad districts of Balochistan.
Lasting 22 months, the project aims to improve the health and livelihood of the population by changing the culture of the rural population regarding sanitation, hygiene, and safe drinking water.
The project focuses on raising public awareness to improve the lives of the targeted groups. Qatar Charity organized training and awareness courses for staff and school committees, displayed awareness materials in public places, and formed villages committees and clubs to raise awareness about water, sanitation, and hygiene. This is all to provide people with skills and awareness related to public hygiene.
The Director-General of the Local Government in Balochistan Naimat Ullah Babar said that the project meets the needs of the poor, pointing to the role of Qatar Charity in providing the necessary facilities to maintain personal hygiene, such as toilets.
Babar expressed hope that Qatar Charity will be a major partner in the long term, and that its project will benefit a large number of people in the targeted areas.
Qatar Charity has improved the social and economic situation of residents in Jang District in the past two years, the Deputy Commissioner of Jhang district Shahid Abbad Joya said.
Joya also noted Qatar Charity’s remarkable role during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, as it built and provided shelter for needy and vulnerable families.
