Pesticides are found in many foods but they are more common in fresh produce such as fruits, vegetables, red meats, and fish. Cold water fish like tuna and salmon are known to store pesticides in their fat reserves. There is an increasing body of evidence which suggests that we should limit our consumption cold water fish.
It is possible that pesticides can cause serious health problems, and may even be killing us slowly. Some pesticides are linked to birth defects, hormone disruption, and even cancer. Pesticides are commonly used in produce farming but which one was used to produce your apple?
Surprisingly, there is no legal requirement to state which pesticide was used.
Are Foods Killing Us…………The three most common pesticides are Glyphosate, Atrazine, and Chlorpyrifos, and they are all associated with many health conditions.
Glyphosate is found in genetically modified soy and corn products. Women going through menopause are often encouraged to increase their intake of Soy-based products, but, in fact, soy products like milk, yogurt, and tofu can do more harm than good. Glyphosate side effects are linked to fertility issues, cancer, birth defects, hormone problems and neurological disorders like early on-set dementia.
Every year 200 million pounds of a pesticide called Atrazine is in use all over the world. This is a very dangerous pesticide as it is stored in body fat. It has been found in red meats like beef and pork. Atrazine has been found in rivers, and it is known that salmon can store it in its body fat. We are told to eat more cold water fish as they are rich in Essential Fatty Acids such as Omega 3. Unfortunately, this means we also increase our intake of Atrazine. It is recognized that Atrazine can cause birth defects and infertility.
Chlorpyrifos is a cheap pesticide which was first developed in the early 1960’s. It is linked to headaches, migraines, fatigue, nausea, and stomach upsets. Shockingly, we know it can damage the blood supply, the back of the eye, and even foster ADHD. Even low exposure to Chlorpyrifos can cause problems, and it is used in the production of apples, oranges, and tomatoes.
It is difficult to say for certain if pesticides in foods are killing us. One thing is for certain, we do know that we are consuming them and they are certainly capable of causing us serious physical harm. Should we not have a right to know what has gone into producing our food???
