How Long Does CBD Stay in Your Body?

Cannabidiol (CBD) has continued to grow in popularity over the last few years, mainly as a supplement. However, since it contains a trace amount of THC, it is still likely to be detected in drug tests and screenings. This can be particularly worrying when you are searching for a job or need to consent to drug screening for other reasons, such as being on parole.

While CBD is a natural supplement, THC metabolites are still likely to be detected during drug tests or screenings. Learn how long CBD stays in your body and the role of the compound in the system.

How long Cannabidiol stays in your body

Generally, CBD may remain in your body for about eight to 12 days. THC and its metabolites can be detected in urine for around three days after the last usage in the case of single exposures. However, it’s important to remember that these durations vary from one individual to another. Here are some factors that determine how long CBD stays in your system:

1.     Metabolism

Metabolism is one of the main factors that determine how fast CBD can be excreted from your body. According to experts, taller individuals have a greater metabolism, while an active lifestyle can increase metabolic processes.

2.     Method of consumption

The effects of CBD and its presence in your system depend on how you introduce cannabinoids into the body. For instance, vaping or smoking weed enables it to take effect almost instantly, while ingestion can delay onset for up to one or two hours.

3.     Diet and exercise

CBD will be processed by the body faster when you use it on an empty stomach rather than on a full stomach. Likewise, users who exercise regularly might find that their body metabolizes cannabinoids such as THC and CBD more quickly. Many users have reported feeling a more powerful form of the runner’s high when working out and using cannabis.

4.     Frequency of use

If you use CBD in low amounts only once or twice, the cannabinoid will stay in your body for a few days and not more than a day for most people. However, if you use it for seven days or longer, it can be detectable in your body for up to a month or longer.

CBD and drug tests

You may be wondering, does CBD show on a drug test? The aim of most drug tests is to identify the amount of a drug in your body system. However, most drug tests are specifically created to look for the presence of THC, not CBD. Generally, it’s very unlikely that CBD will cause a positive result in a drug test, but THC will definitely do.

Most CBD products contain a small amount of THC, which would theoretically result in a positive test result since it’s still detectable in urine tests. However, the amount of THC in legal CBD products (up to 0.3% THC) is so little that drug tests for THC won’t show positive results.

Endnote

There is no exact answer to how long CBD stays in the body. This is because everyone has unique bodily characteristics and may consume CBD differently. Based on the existing research, CBD may remain in your body for a day to several weeks. Nevertheless, you shouldn’t be worried about failing a drug screening or test if you usually take pure CBD products.
